Steppe Gull barabensis 2CY, February 27 2001, Ashkar landfill, Bahrain.

The tail has old juvenile feathers with a broad black tail-band. Near the base the rectrices show vermiculation. The upper three second generation tertials are plain grey and slightly paler towards the tip with an accentuated shaft streak. Most scapulars are second generation; some are barred brown on a white based centre and others are grey-brown with a black shaft streak. The last required scapulars in the lower upper scapulars, which are adult-like grey, are probably third generation. The under-wing coverts have a brown barred pattern on a predominantly white base. Thed upper-wing coverts are mostly juvenile and abraded. However, a few central lesser coverts and a few innermost median and lesser coverts are moulted to second generation. Note the Venetian blind in the inner primaries, created by the dark outer-web and pale inner-web.
