barabensis-type 2CY, February 27 2001, Manama harbour, Bahrain.

Barabensis class II 1st winter or maybe heuglini. The high-based, blunt bill with a clear gonydeal angle, combined by a rounded head may favour barabensis over cachinnans. The very abraded outer lesser coverts and bleached pale brown median and greater coverts and the friendly facial expression seem to rule out heuglini, and advocate barabensis. In the central median coverts, new feathers are visible with a double barred pattern on a grey base. Fresh 2nd generation scapulars show a plain mid grey base with a simple dark shaft streak.
