cachinnnans-type 2CY, February 25 2001, Muharraq jetty, Bahrain.

Barabensis 1st winter or cachinnans.

Probably cachinnans. Angular head, pretty straight bill (though with an obvious gonydeal angle), pointed wings, high breast, long tibia and strong expression indicate cachinnans. Commonly in cachinnans, all tertials, wing coverts and tail feathers are still juvenile and normally show bleaching and abrasion. In the field, at least p3-p10 were dark and the under wing was obvious pale, indicative for cachinnans. Nevertheless, it’s hard to exclude barabensis.
