cachinnans plumages

Larus cachinnans 2cy, August 26 2010, Westkapelle, the Netherlands. Picture: Ies Meulmeester.

This 2cy Caspian Gull has moult all scapulars, coverts and tertials to second generation feathers. Note that two upper tertials (tt2 & tt3) and a few inner lesser & median coverts has dropped. As seen on the last two flight pictures the primary moult has not finished, p1-8 are full grown, p9 is still growing and p10 is not present. Note also the whitish underwing coverts and moult activity in the inner secondaries.
