Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) NOS 362734 3cy: September 24 2004, IJmuiden, the Netherlands.

This bird has a small mirror on the outer and inner-web of second generation P10. Most of the scapulars and some central coverts are adult blackish, but the tertials and inner greater coverts look very second generation-like. These feathers were probably moulted in the partial autumn moult and are still to be replaced by September. Note the worn fringes on these feathers. Primary P7 is fully grown and P10 is still old. Note the new white tail.
