Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 3cy, May 17 2002, Le Portel - Boulogne sur Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

A bird with more advanced bill coloration. A few third generation median coverts still show a barred pattern and are similar in pattern to the second generation lower lesser coverts. The last moulted coverts, greater coverts #4-5 and a few lesser coverts are obviously different patterned and look fresh black. Note the hint of a pale mirror on the rounded second generation p10 primary.
