Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus)

Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) adult: September 22 2002, Le Portel - Boulogne sur Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

Primary p5 is fully grown. Outer primaries p8-p10 still have to be shed. Almost the complete greater covert bar has been shed, exposing the secondaries underneath. The median and lower lesser coverts are growing and the upper row of lesser coverts are clearly old and brown.
