Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)

Herring Gull 3cy, July 18 2013, Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

Active moult / complete moult in summer months: P5/P8. P6 about halfway its final length.

Secondaries and tail still old second generation; tail with much distal black and proximal vermiculation. Missing inner greater coverts expose base on secondaries lying underneath. Note greater covert row have two moult waves, one starting at outer feathers and another from inside.
