Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)

(last update: February 11, 2013)

Herring Gull (argentatus) J3861 4CY, February 09 2015, Hovindam - Oslo, Norway. Picture: John Sandøy.

Please visit John's Hovindam Blog for more images! The Hovin Dam, or Lilleberg Pond, is a pond in Oslo where John attracts wintering gulls with cat food or cerals.

No provenance on origin, J3861 was ringed as 1CY in fall 2012 at Sandvika, Norway. Many records since at Akershus and from Oslo. Here photographed at the ice of Bjøvika. Another example bird that looks immature in 4CY, with only small tips on primaries and marbling on the tertials. Many grey scaps though and new feathers, replaced wing-coverts in fall, have adult grey colour.
