Herring Gull argentatus adult, April 10 2014, Pori, Finland. Picture: Petteri Mäkelä.
Visit Petteri's BLOG.
Herring Gull argentatus with bright yellow legs and red orbital ring. Mirror merges with tip on P10, small subterminal black spot on P10. Broad pale tongue on underside of P10 (serrated) gradually reaches innerweb edge. Large mirror on P9, band on P9 broken at outerweb. Diffuse almost complete band on P5.
Note pattern of grey on upperside of P8: deep grey tongue, grey eating into black and medial black limited to area near the tip, which is unlike michahellis, which normally has much more black on P8 and diffuse transition between black and grey.
