(2 images) LBBG 2cy E219 November 2001 & October 2004, Westkapelle, the Netherlands.

below: November 01 2001, Westkapelle, the Netherlands. Picture Pim Wolf.

A second winter bird with a Dutch ring: E219, born at Maasvlakte, the Netherlands and ringed as pullus at the nest on June 17 2000. A pretty straightforward 2cy bird with almost all the scapulars replaced for third generation grey feathers (except a few in the lower region) and developing a grey median covert bar in the otherwise patterned wing coverts panel. Hence, most of the median coverts have been included in the partial wing-covert moult of last months, as are a few lower lesser coverts and the upper tertials. The greater and lesser coverts have a broad barred pattern and mainly consist of second generation feathers which are abraded at the fringes.

Below: October 01 2004, Westkapelle, the Netherlands. Picture Pim Wolf.

E219 red, now in 5cy. Primary moult score: P7 full-grown, P10 still old with a small mirror. E214 has obvious black on both mandibles. The red gonydeal spot is confined to the lower mandible. The pale-yellow iris shows no speckling and the orbital ring is dark red. The legs are not bright yellow, rather pinkish yellow.
