An example of a bird which moved to another colony (5 km's). As a thumb rule, the males return to the colonies where they were raised, while the females may disperse to other colonies. In a research about Herring Gulls, approximately 75% of the male and about 40% of the females in their adult plumage returned to the original colony (H. Vercruijsse).
