Western Gull occidentalis sub-adult, June 08 2015, Pacific Grove, Monterey Cty., California USA. Picture: John Cant.

Pre-basic moult, with old feathers worn now and bleached. Much black in tail and dark blackish, not greyish centred secondaries advocate 2nd generation, but the secondaries have really large white tips and there is an obvious mirror on p10 (which much better match 3rd generation). Maybe better left classified 'sub-adult', although such difficult birds ofetn proof to be delayed 3rd cycle (4CY) birds.

Complete moult started, note fresh inner primaries.
