American Herring Gull (smithsonianus) adult, November 09 2009, Searsport, Maine, USA. Picture: Jim McCree.

Jim wrote: This gull collects mussels at low tide and drops them on the paved causeway to Sears Island in Searsport, Maine for easy opening.

Obvious white tongue on P10, and full sub-terminal band. No mirror on P9, black reaches up to primary coverts just along the feather's edge. W-pattern on P5. 'Bajonets' on P6-P8 not really obvious.
