Glasucous-winged Gull 1st cycle, November 28 2010, Pescadero, CA, US. Picture: Chuq von Rospach.

Visit: Chuq's images.

Replaced scapulars: all scapulars replaced at least one time, typically 2nd gen feathers have a dark shaft-line with thin transversal bars or sub-terminal anchor pattern. Several feathers in the lower row of upper scapulars (LUS) now grey, probably already replaced for 3rd generation feathers. Note cold grey feathers at flank, side of the neck, crown and just behind ear-coverts, indicating replacement to 2nd gen feathers in these body feather tracts.
