Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 1CY, September 21 2002, Dannes - Le Portel, NW France.

1CY Yellow-legged Gull with most scapulars, wing-coverts and upper tertails replaced for second generation feathers, showing a broad anchor pattern in most feathers. The upper three tertials have been replaced, the inner three greater coverts, the inner nine medians have been replaced as well.
Right in the picture is a 2CY michahellis, which has replaced all the wing coverts for third generation feathers, still much second generation-like in their patterning. Note the differences in the primaries and similarities of the juvenile greater coverts in the 1CY bird and the second generation greater coverts in the 2CY bird.
