photo 5573: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2cy, July 27 2001, Le Portel, NW France.

A very straightforward 2cy michahellis and the average appearance for 2cy michahellis in July.  Primary score: p7 almost fully grown (just a few inches to go) and no old primaries left (all juvenile primaries shed). Recently replaced scapulars appear blue-grey although other scapulars show a barred pattern (although they were recently replaced as well; note the clear white fringe). Michahellis normally has broad, dark blackish bars contrasting with the pale, almost white base of the scapulars and coverts. This individual is moulting lesser coverts and a few scapulars (common moult strategy in July, where emphasis is laid on the primary and secondary moult).

Note the new tail.
