Steppe Gull barabensis 2CY, February 25 2001, Ashkar harbour, Bahrain.

Barabensis class II? 1st winter.

This individual resembles the adults in both size and head-shape. The thin delicate bill in the adults, combined with the tone of grey of the upper-parts are indicative for barabensis. Note the rather dark brown outer wing-coverts, which seem to be better conserved than the very abraded feathers in previous birds (images 1-3 in February section). The central lesser coverts are just visible with at least one new second generation feather.
