cachinnans-type 2CY, February 27 2001, Manama harbour, Bahrain.

Barabensis class II 1st winter or cachinnans.

This is a very pale 1st cycle bird, not actively moulting wing coverts or scapulars, though a few upper scapulars seem to be more recently moulted, showing a narrow fringe. 2nd generation scapulars are grey brown centred with a white tip and a black shaft streak. Most recently moulted feathers have a very small sub-terminal band. Few coverts are moulted, like the innermost greater, median and lesser and median #4. This one clearly shows the bar near the tip and the overall pale impression. Primary tips worn away and feather edges bleached. Long bill and flat forehead might indicate cachinnans, though bill may appear pretty high-based with a clear gonydeal angle, depending on the relative angle with the observer.
