End
of February in the Arabian Gulf: there are still 1.000's of Slender-billed
Gulls (Larus genei) present at the main island of Bahrain, especially at the beaches
north of the capital Manama.
Some adults already start developing a rose-coloured cast at head, breast
and belly. Bare part coloration is a first clue to recognise different
plumages, with spring 2cy birds still showing very yellowish-orange legs.
Adults in summer plumage develop a deep coral red coloration on the legs.
There is a small harbour, north of Manama where most of these pictures at
this site were taken. All with a digital camera through a telescope from
the car window.
