Photo 13: LBBG sub-adult, September 30 2001,
Le Portel, France.
Another presumed intermedius LBBG, with p9
and p10 old, p5 full-grown. Signs of immaturity can be found in:
- the upper two tertials which, though new, do
not show the broad adult-like white tip,
- one of the scapular coverts which appears
brown,
- some inner upper lesser coverts which appear
brown,
- single brown scapulars, both in the upper
scapulars and in the lower scapular region,
- brown lower lesser coverts and a few brown
upper lesser coverts,
- hint of black at the gonydeal angle at the
bill.
When the complete moult will be finished in
November, such individuals are very hard to separate from full adults.
