2cy LBBG's, July 6 2001, IJmuiden, the Netherlands.

Many 2cy LBBG's moult the central median coverts inwards. Some birds have the greater coverts still juvenile (bird left), but most 2cy LBBG show a new row of both greater and median coverts, while other birds have the outer-half of the greater coverts shed, exposing the secondaries. The pattern of these fresh greater coverts may vary to a large degree: The central bird has obvious broad barring on the coverts, while in the bird right the pattern is only ill-defined. Most of the scapulars have grey centres or with the centres almost black. The bird left has the scapulars very boldly patterned. The tail is still juvenile in some birds, but by July it's very common the find 2cy birds in tail-moult. The primary moult score can vary from p2 still juvenile in much delayed birds to p8 already shed in advanced birds.
