Photo 1641: LBBG 2cy, June 18 2002, Vuurtorenvlakte - Maasvlakte, the Netherlands.
Here you find another second type 2cy LBBG which may be as far as the previous bird regarding moult stage, but has a completely different look as the second generation feathers are merely barred.
Again, the bill has a clear-cut pale tip and the
bill-base starts to become paler, the legs are
distinctly short and in general it's a small, elegant 'neck-less' individual
with a thin long bill,
almost certainly originating from an intermedius population in
Scandinavia.
Primary moult is at an average stage for 2cy LBBG in the Netherlands, with P5 missing and P6 still juvenile. Tail-feather moult has
started with at least R5 replaced.
Tertials #5 was moulted quite a while ago, probably included in the
post-juvenile moult last autumn. The upper tertials #1-4 were
replaced recently and they show a neat white fringe at the tips.
The inner 3 greater coverts show a pattern and wear stage similar to the central
median coverts. The next greater coverts, #4-6 and 8-10 are plain grey-black
second generation feathers. Greater covert #7 and coverts #11 and further
outwards are still juvenile. In the
median coverts, the second generation central feathers are clearly barred and
the fringes at the tips are slightly worn.
In the scapulars, the all dark third generation feathers can be found in the
upper row of lower scapulars.
