Upper-parts are completely third generation. The base of scapulars is pale grey-brown, which is not unusual at all at this age. Inner greater coverts, all median coverts and some lesser coverts are third generation. Note the typical coloration of the third generation tertials; the 4th tertial is still growing and already very adult-like with a grey base, broad white tip and blackish shaft. This supports the theory that later acquired feathers of the same generation are more advanced regarding coloration and pattern than early moulted 3rd generation feathers.
