Photo 6: First winter LBBG, October 14 2001, Westkapelle, the Netherlands.

An odd individual in having a very notched or almost barred pattern in many of the coverts (resembling L.cachinnans in some respects). The tertials have a broad pale bar above the dark sub-terminal band and small notches. Only a few scapulars have been moulted to first winter feathers and in the coverts three median coverts have been replaced. Note the moulted head and under-parts.
