Five examples of
1cy LBBGs
which replaced juvenile scapulars for plain
fresh grey feathers.
The normal pattern in 2nd generation (first winter) scapulars and inner median coverts is a barred pattern or an anchor pattern (sub-terminal black band and a pronounced dark shaft, sometimes broad at the base and reaching to the feather edge). But some 1cy birds have fresh plain grey feathers which are relatively dark grey (but may turn paler with age). Often the LBBGs showing these grey feathers are delicately built, long-winged, short-legged and seem to originate from Scandinavia (see e.g. d3, which is presented on this page but could also be placed in the 'presumed intermedius group' regarding jizz. |
