LBBG intermedius JCA0, September 20 2003, IJmuiden, the Netherlands (51°33'0''N, 3°25'0''E)
Adult LBBG intermedius with P6-P10 still
old, P4 fully-grown and P5 slightly shorter than P3. This is a relatively small
moult gap, maybe more typical in migrating birds. Moult in the rectrices and
secondaries haven't started yet. This is a rather pale intermedius. The P10 is small.
Together with the small moult gap in the primaries, moult in the wing-coverts is
almost suspended completely. The differences between the old brown and new grey feathers are
obvious between the median and the greater coverts. The scapulars are a mix of old brown and new dark grey
feathers as well. On the bill, the red gonydeal spot extends on the upper mandible
as a diffuse wash and there is
no black on the bill.
