LBBG intermedius NOS 416x366, September 22 2003, IJmuiden, the Netherlands (51°33'0''N, 3°25'0''E)
(Near?) Adult LBBG intermedius with P9-P10 still
old. Moult in the rectrices has started as well, with the inner tail-feathers
dropped, as is commonly seen in birds with P6 longer than P5. This bird was ringed in
Norway, Stavanger 416?366. This is a dark intermedius bird, with a warm brown
hue on the old wing-coverts. P10 has no mirror and the old 4th tertial has a
dark thumb-print on the centre, indications for immaturity. However, the
secondaries are typical adult-like.
Together with the primary moult, moult in the wing-coverts
has started as well and the differences between the old brown and new grey feathers are
obvious between the median and the lesser coverts. The scapulars are a mix of old brown and new dark grey
feathers as well. On the bill, the red gonydeal spot is confined to the lower mandible and there is
black on both the upper and lower mandible.
