Photo 13: LBBG adult?, September 30 2001, Le Portel, France.
Probably this is an adult LBBG, but it may still be in 4cy or 5cy as well, because the fresh tertials have no fully developed white tips, the old visible secondaries have bleached brown centres, the primary tips are hardly developed and the mirror on p10 is relatively small.
Most of the greater coverts have been shed and active moult is still going on in the central medians. The lesser coverts are a mix of old brown and new grey feathers. The old tail (note wear on the outer edge of R6) is all white, the red gonydeal spot extends to the upper mandible and the bare parts are very adult-like coloured. P8 to p10 are still old.
