Photo 10: 2cy LBBG May 2000, Maasvlakte, the Netherlands.
A second type LBBG, with typically much barring on the second generation coverts and tertials. Most coverts were recently renewed. The upper four tertials and most visible median and lower lesser coverts are second generation. At least the inner greater coverts are second generation. It is difficult to discern whether the outer greater coverts are missing/ growing or the gap has only been caused by untidy looking feathers (a damaged secondary in this case). The under-parts are well-marked and the rather typical patterned hind-neck is clearly demarcated from the whitish head. Note also the delicate proportions, with a rounded head, short neck and friendly impression. The tibia are longer than average in the second type LBBG.
