Photo 15: LBBG 2cy, May 11 2001, Naaktstrand Maasvlakte, the Netherlands.
This is an example of third type LBBG in first summer with complete second generation body plumage. The tail was recently moulted to second generation (note the white fringes, visible in the picture). In the scapulars, the last moulted feathers are plain grey with a dark, almost black triangular centre. Third type LBBG show such an advanced moult strategy, but often can be all-white in the under-parts. Here, head and under-part streaking fit second type LBBG.
