Photo 15: LBBG 3cy, May 12 2001, Dintelhaven Maasvlakte, the Netherlands.
This
typical 3cy LBBG already frequents the colony. The mantle and scapulars
form a grey saddle. Most of the coverts were moulted to third generation and are worn by now.
Sometimes the entire median covert row is replaced, creating a grey bar.
Here, the coverts are moulted randomly. The tail appears white, but in this age
class, it might be anything from a clear tail-band, spaghetti pattern,
black-and-white variegate patterns to snow white with faint black
markings.
