Photo 9: 2cy LBBG, July 7 2001, IJmuiden, the Netherlands.
Probably an intermedius LBBG. The outermost greater coverts and lesser coverts (carpal edge) are still juvenile, all other visible feathers were replaced by 2nd generation, of which many are old and abraded already. All tertials are 2nd generation: #1-5 are old, #6 is fresh. Greater coverts #6 and #7 (counted from the body) are missing, median coverts #13 and #14 were recently moulted and about 40% of the lessers remain still juvenile. In the scapulars, a few 3rd generation adult-like feathers were moulted recently. P4 is growing while p5-p10 are still juvenile. This bird is actively moulting the rectrices and fresh feathers can be recognized by the deep black colour.
