Photo 8: intermedius LBBG (sub?)adult, December 21 2000, Westkapelle, the Netherlands.
The head is nicely streaked. The primary moult is almost completed: moult score is 49. Adult intermedius sometimes have only small white tips, even in freshly moulted primaries. In these individuals the difference between sub-adults and adults is even harder to make, definitely not to be based on size of primary tips. To make it more difficult, these intermedius seem on average to be darker, hampering detecting brown sub-adult feathers.
