Photo 5: LBBG 3cy, October 14 2001,
Westkapelle, the Netherlands.
A 3cy LBBG with the following features:
  - P8 is full-grown and p9 is visible in the far
    wing (at the length of p7). Note the very small white tips on these fresh
    outer primaries;
- The tertials are not plain grey in the centres,
    but are covered with a blackish and brownish hue. Note that the white tips
    are confined to the inner webs of the tertials;
- In the coverts, many feathers appear brownish
    and look immature. Note especially the carpal edge and a single scapular
    covert.
- Especially the central tail feathers, although
    fresh, have extensive black markings. These markings are confined to the
    inner web of the feathers, resulting in a  blocked black-and-white
    pattern;
- Winter streaking at the ear coverts and the
    neck extends along the breast-sides;
- Black markings at the bill are obvious.
