(2 images) sub-adult LBBG, October 2001, Vuurtorenvlakte - Maasvlakte, the Netherlands. (pictures by Nils van Duyvendijk)
A bird with two moult waves in the wing. The
upper-parts appear very dark, blackish-brown, not contrasting with the
primaries. P10 has a small mirror, not reaching the edge of the inner-web and p9
is slightly abraded. 8 is very abraded with a protruding shaft. P7 was moulted
very recently but is lacking a white tip anyway. P6 is pretty old again and the
exact moult stage of the inner primaries is hard to determine, but it seems
p1-p4 are neat flight-feathers with broad white tips and p5 is missing.
The bill has a small black bill-band.
