Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2CY, July 27 2001, Etaples, NW France.

An individual showing the average secondary moult strategy by the end of July. The outer 10 or so secondaries (S1-S10) have been shed, the next 4 to 5 secondaries are still present and a small gap appears near the tertials. The first three new 2nd generation secondaries are fully grown and the adjacent secondaries are already growing in from the outer wing towards the body, moult started with S1. Note the growing tail-feathers and the dark brown under-wing coverts.
