American Herring Gull (smithsonianus) 1cy, October 08 2006, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Picture: Bruce Mactavish.

Classic bird. Bird in complete juvenile plumage, without replaced scapulars by early-Ocober. However, the tips of the scapulars start to show a first sign of wear. Note the uniform under-parts and neck, dark tail (but delicate white notching along the edge of R6), bold pattern on undertail-coverts.
