Slaty-backed Gull (schistisagus) sub-adult, March 07 2012, Choshi, Japan. Picture: Peter Adriaens. Please also visit Peter's Pbase account and his Picasaweb albums for many more pictures! Another "paler backed" Slaty-backed Gull, and again a subadult bird.
Upperparts appear quite pale, but note that they still match those of
Black-tailed Gull in front. Dark mask around eye, and 'inflated' body With spread wings. The black outerwebs to P9-P10 reach up to the primary coverts, and therefore do not suggest any influence of Glaucous-winged Gull. The rather greyish innerweb of P10 is unlike typical Vega Gull. |
