American Herring Gull (smithsonianus) 1st cycle (1CY) 1056-91109 December 07 2013, New Buffalo, Berrien County, Michigan. Picture: Amar Ayyash.

Band number 1056-91109, species: "Herring Gull", banded on June 30 2013 as fledgling in Milwaukee WI. This bird was rescued by the Wisconsin Humane Society and looked after at the Wildlife Rehabilitiaon Center in Milwaukee, and just crossed the lake to Berrien County.

Bi-coloured bill. New feathers on head and in breast (dark feathers are new). All scaps replaced, including the long rear lower scaps. This is an example bird representing a very small minority that replace some wing-coverts and/or tertials in the post-juvenile moult; this bird has replaced GC1-2, MC1-2 in the left wing (but not in the right?), feathers are darker ased, with transversal bars and neat pale tips.
