American Herring Gull (smithsonianus) M92 3rd cycle (4CY), January 15 2015, Seabrook beach, NH. Picture: Dave Adrien.

Banded on Appledore Island, banded as chick on July 16, 2012, now in 3rd cycle (4CY). See website: The Gulls Of Appledore.

3rd generation primaries which look very much as 2nd gen feathers. Only very small pale tips and overall rather brown, not blackish. The mirror on P10 seems to be absent. Scapulars still with single old brown feathers in the adult-like grey saddle. Wing-coverts lacking any adult-like grey feather, which contribute to the overall retarded look.

Pale iris and much black at tip of bill.
