Mew Gull canus 2cy, January 29 2011, Buitenhoflaan - Leiderdorp, The Netherlands. Picture: Maarten van Kleinwee.

Second-calendar year Mew Gull in first-winter plumage (first cycle, pre-alternate moult). All of the mantle feathers and scapulars have been replaced by second-generation, adult-looking gray feathers. All wing feathers (coverts, tertials, secondaries and primaries) are first-generation, brown feathers. Especially the median and greater coverts look bleached.
