Larus armenicus 2cy, 18 August 2010, Maagan Michael, Israel. Picture: Amir Ben Dov.
Bird in the last phase of the complete moult. Gap in the central greater coverts already closed. P8 fully grown, P9 at 1/3 of the final length. As may be expected in birds in the last stage of the primary moult, there will be a limited 'extra autumn moult'. This partial moult will normally include median coverts, inner greater coverts and upper tertials. In this bird, the outer median covcerts are dropped again. It will be interesting to see how extensive such partial autumn moult can be in the taxon armenicus.
