2cy bird illustrating partial autumn moult extent in the wing-coverts:
All feathers at least replaced once for 2nd gen feathers (in the complete moult last spring and summer). But in autumn, a selection of wing-coverts are replaced again, looking fresher now and more adult-like in general pattern and base colour. Typically, in this partial autumn moult, the upper tertials, inner greater coverts, many median and lower lesser coverts are involved, as are randomly some lesser coverts. This is exactly the case in this individual, albeit only a few llc are involved.
