Larus armenicus adult, 18 August 2010, Maagan Michael, Israel. Picture: Amir Ben Dov.
Adult in active complete moult. P3 fully grown, P4 at 2/3 of the final length (and it shows sub-terminal black on both webs), P5 over half ofd th length, P6 tip just visibler, P7 missing, P8-P10 still old (score P3/P8). Very large moult gap! Note much markings on the bill and indication of 'winter head pattern'. Mirror on P9 (two webs!!!) and on P10.
Primary moult in the inner primaries complete, which commonly goes hand-in-hand with extensive moult in the wing-coverts. Here: the central median coverts are regrowing and the central and outer greater coverts are dropped. This exposes much of the secondaries, and in fact you can even see the white bases of the feathers.
