Larus armenicus adult, 06 November 2009, Acer shore, Israel. Picture: Rei Segali.
Adult in active complete moult. P1-P7 fully grown, P8-P10 still growing. Note head streaking. As the last outer primaries are still growing, so are the central secondaries. The very last old secondaries are still present (often S16-S17). The common pattern in the secondaries, is when they grow in two waves. The first starts in the outer feathers when P6-P7 arew growing (next to P1, i.e. S1) and when the central secondaries are dropped, another wave starts from the body. The two waves will meet at about S16-S17, just before P10 is fully grown.
