5 images: flying LBBG 3cy, May 26 2006, Erasmusgracht - Amsterdam, the Netherlands. A selection of flying 3cy birds in May, illustrating the most common plumage. Top: all rectrices and remiges old second generation. Above: all rectrices and remiges old second generation, but note pattern in right R1, indicating this may be a 3rd generation feather. Several inner median and a few inner greater coverts replaced, as well some upper tertials. Probably in the autumn moult the previous year. Above: all remiges old second generation. Five out of six rectrices replaced for 3rd generation feathers. Above & Below (same bird): remiges old second generation, central tail-feathers replaced on the wintering grounds or earlier in autumn the previous year (judged on limited wear, probably in winter/spring). P1 growing, P2 missing, P3-P10 old 2nd generation. Note symmetric single fresh central secondaries in both wings. |
