Lesser Black-backed Gull (graellsii & intermedius)

LBBG 3cy, June 23 2006, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

3cy LBBG with arrested moult in spring. Outer primaries oldest, still brown and worn second generation feathers, without a mirror on P10. In the left wing, 4 outer primaries old, in the right wing, 3 outer primaries old. P1-P6 in the left wing (P1-P7 in the right wing) have probably been replaced on the wintering grounds. Once back in N Europe, the complete moult commenced again at P1; currently with P1 and P2 growing, P3-P4 missing. Secondaries are rather worn, like the central primaries. Tail-feathers comparable fresh.
