American Herring Gull (smithsonianus) sub-adult (3rd / 4th cycle), February 09 2008, Dryden, NY, USA. Picture: Mike.

See Mike's Picasa website for many more taxa and images of American Herring Gull.

Overall much adult-like but with obvious immature central tertials (sharply defined blackish centres), some brown feathers in the carpal edge and relatively much black on bill. Note lack of obvious white primary tips.
