Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 2cy: March 15 2003, Boulogne- sur-Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

New scapulars are growing in in the lowest row. The recently moulted scapulars show the typical ginger-tone of marinus second generation scapular centres. Note the abraded juvenile tertials. This is an example of 2cy GBBG with almost all tertials and wing-coverts still juvenile, but worn. One inner median covert has been replaced for a second generation feather. By March, primary moult has still not started in 2cy birds.
